The teachers’ and principals’ alliance have decided to demand an immediate halt to the repressive measures taken by the government to suppress the uprisings of the people in response to the economic and social crisis in the country.
At a conference held in Colombo, the alliance decided to urge authorities to stop the measures taken by the government to obstruct the basic right to freedom of expression through various government directives and immediately establish the right to freedom of speech.
The teachers’ and principals’ representative conference held on 5th October 2022 at the Public library auditorium, has adopted six resolutions.
In the conference held to mark the 2022 World Teacher’s Day, they have further proposed to urge authorities to draw up a formal program for the nutrition, transportation, and to fulfil the basic needs of children in the current economic and social crisis, as malnutrition of children is at a very high level.
As living and transportation costs have become unaffordable, they have also adopted resolutions to insist on providing a sufficient living and transportation allowance until the teacher-principal salary disparity is completely eliminated.
The teachers’ and principals’ trade union alliance stated that the resolutions were adopted to address the ministerial sub-committee appointed in the wake of the struggle to remove the teacher-principal salary disparity.
