Three journalists from a prominent Tamil newspaper in the North have been summoned to the Anti-Terrorism and Investigation Division for questioning.
The journalist of the daily newspaper Uthayan, Rasarathnam Dharshan was the latest to be summoned.
According to provincial reporters, he was called to the Anti-Terrorism and Investigation Division office in Jaffna on December 11th Sunday morning and was interrogated for three hours.
He was questioned by the officers of the Counter-Terrorism and Investigation Division (CTID) regarding an emerging allegation that he played the songs of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam during the 13th Mullivaikkal commemoration held at the Jaffna University in 2022, where Rasarathnam Darshan was the President of the Jaffna University Arts Faculty Students Union.
The Tamil Genocide Remembrance Week begins every year on May 12 across the North and East and ends with a rally held in Mullivaikkal on May 18 to commemorate Tamils killed in the war.
During the interrogations conducted on 11th December from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm, CTID officials had questioned him regarding the activities of the North East Tamil Students Union as well as statements by Rasarathnam Darshan as a student union leader regarding the struggles of the Tamil people for their rights.
On November 27, the Editor-in-Chief of Uthayan newspaper Thangaraja Prabhakaran was summoned to the CTID head office in Colombo and questioned for four hours over publishing a story about the LTTE leader’s birthday with his photo three years ago.
Award-winning journalist and news editor of Uthayan newspaper K. Dileep Amuthan was also called to the CTID head office in Colombo and questioned for more than four hours on November 1 over the same three years old news article.
